To be sober

If God told you exactly what to say to someone, would you?

When God told Titus that aged women should teach the younger women, He also gave him the syllabus of what things should be taught.

Of all the topics, the first one, "to be sober," must be important as the principle, fundamental item on the list. Why should young women be taught to be sober?

Soberness isn't just a serious expression. It's not just abstaining from alcohol. A good definition of soberness is "when good sense continually conquers wild emotion."

According to Webster's 1828 Dictionary, soberness is having the regular exercise of cool, dispassionate reason. Calm; not under the influence of passion.

Regularly separating from how we FEEL in favor of what we KNOW.

The Bible is chock full of examples of women who were or were not sober. Who did what they knew despite how they felt, or who did whatever they felt like doing no matter who they hurt.

In your experience, what can help a woman be sober -- not ruled by emotion, but rather by knowledge?

Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think. It's been years since I regularly posted on here, and I don't know if anyone will even see this post. But if you see it, please leave me your thoughts. I'd love to hear what you have to say about how to not be ruled by passion/emotion.

*Disclaimer: emotions aren't bad unless they are in the driver's seat.
