Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
We Have an Anchor | Priscilla J. Owens
1
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
[Refrain:]We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
2
It will surely hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers have told that the reef is near.
While the tempests rave, and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.
[Refrain]
3
It will firmly hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill our latest breath.
On the rising tide we can never fail,
While our anchor holds within the veil.
[Refrain]
4
When our eyes behold through the morning light
The city of gold and the harbour bright
We shall anchor safe by the heavenly shore,
When life's storms are past for evermore.
[Refrain]
